Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Andrew Minigh

Dr. Andrew Minigh ‘09 was born and raised in Glenville, West Virginia. He completed his undergraduate degree from Glenville State College and graduated from West Virginia University School of Dentistry in 2008. Upon graduation, he immediately began to care for patients in Shinnston, West Virginia.

“Being at Glenville gave me a giant leg up. In my upper level science classes, the professor knew you. You weren’t working with a TA, you were working with someone who had a real interest in you,” he said. “I was well-educated going into dental school coming from Glenville. The classes that I took at GSC, some of them I had almost the exact same class in dental school, just at a different level.”

Dr. Minigh currently serves on the Glenville State University Foundation Board and, since 2018, has been a board member for the Susan Dew Hoff Memorial Dental Clinic. The clinic, for which he is also a volunteer, provides free or extremely discounted dental care and dental appliances for qualifying low-income children and adults. He proudly serves as a board member for the Shinnston Development Association and is a member of the Mon Valley Dental Association and the Harrison County Dental Association. In 2022, he established the Minigh Family Scholarship to support scholarships for students from Harrison County and North Central West Virginia to pursue higher education at Glenville State University.

In 2018, Dr. Minigh launched Minigh Mobile, a free mobile dentistry service for school-age students designed specifically to serve the needs of children in the Shinnston area with and without dental insurance.

Dr. Minigh has been voted as Harrison County’s Best Dentist consecutively from 2019-2025 by members of that community. He is also a member of The West Virginia Dental Association and The ADA®. Minigh earned the Community Service Award from GSU’s Alumni Association in 2025.

Throughout the years, Dr. Minigh has served as a coach for several sports teams, a sponsor at Lincoln High School, and a silent sponsor for much, much more. Minigh Family Dentistry also founded and continues to sponsor a community Easter egg hunt. Andrew says he lives for time spent with friends and family, traveling, playing basketball, and relentlessly pursuing professional and personal development.

Minigh says that his favorite part about life as a dentist, without hesitation, is the people. “There’s nothing better than seeing so many people each day and knowing that we are helping. I love being able to change their smiles in a way that helps their confidence, comfort, anything. The people are what make the difference.”

Andrew and his wife Faith have two children, Addison and Bryson. Restoration Church International where Dr. Minigh serves as Head Usher and board member, also serves a very important role in their lives.

Additionally, Andrew has several family members who are Glenville State graduates; including his father Paul Minigh Jr. ‘76, mother Pam (Hacker) Minigh ‘82, and sisters Ashley (Minigh) Butcher ‘09 and Dr. Andrea (Minigh) Kinder ‘13.

“When you’re not from Glenville, I think it’s harder to get people to give Glenville a chance. But once they do…they’re hooked. I think that’s why you see people who come there from all over the country and then they stay afterward,” he said.

Looking forward Minigh says that he hopes to be able to expand his practice and reach more people. Doing that, he says, helps him be able to give back to his communities. “I think that’s what we should all be striving for…we should all try to have that mindset to give back where we live. Keep it local,” he said.
